Maternity Boarding: Engaging Moms-to-Be and New Moms

The joy of impending motherhood can easily be tempered by a daunting pile of HR paperwork. Trying to juggle getting life ready for the new bundle of joy, while figuring out disability pay, FMLA, system access, vacation time, and more is an unfortunate reality for many new parents.

The question is – how do you create an easy, scalable maternity boarding process that works for HR and is a breeze for new moms?

Easy – create a digital hub for new moms (and dads!) that intuitively guides the new parent and HR through every step of the maternity process – from telling the company to returning to work when it’s time. Establish a stable, easy-to-follow process that can be completed on their mobile device, while waiting in line at the grocery store or in a doctor’s waiting room. Include answers to frequently asked questions and a congratulatory video from the company.

Make new parents feel like a valued and respected part of the team as they embark on this new journey with their family.

Get started by answering the following questions:

  • What is the process from start to finish for an expecting parent?
  • What paperwork do they need to complete and when? Where does that paperwork currently live?
  • What are the location-specific regulations (state/ country) your employees need to be aware of?
  • Who should your employee contact about short term disability? How and when?
  • What are your company policies regarding new mom hours and pay leading up to childbirth and upon her return? What are your policies for new dads?
  • How can you make the transition easier for new parents – both when they’re starting maternity leave and returning from it?
  • Does your company offer flexible hours? If so, what are they?
  • Have any of your employees left on maternity leave? Interview them about the process – what went well, what didn’t, and how it could be improved.

Once you have all of the information and an intuitive process, set it up in a mobile-first hub.

Supporting your employees during this life-changing time for their families shows them you care and want them to continue to be a part of the team for the long term – critical components of engagement and retention of quality talent.
